For 2023, GMC introduces a new AT4X AEV Edition, which features incredible off-road capability, many creature comforts, and the latest off-road technology. According to the Rexburg GMC dealership, this package is only offered on the Sierra 1500 AT4X trim level. It adds gloss-black 18-inch AEV Salta wheels, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, a front winch, a raised ground clearance of 11.2 inches, an improved 32.5-degree front approach angle, 23-degree departure and breakover angles, steel front and rear bumpers with recovery points, and additional steel skid plates.

"The Sierra's powertrain lineup might be its greatest strength. Surprisingly, the 2.7-liter turbo-four offers more than enough capability for most buyers, and that was our take before GMC gave it an extra 70 lb-ft of torque. The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in eight trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate. Buyers can get this pickup as a single cab, double cab, or four-door crew cab. Bed sizes range from 5.8-to-8.2 feet in length. Rear-wheel drive is standard on most trims, while the AT4, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate get all-wheel drive standard. The other trims get available all-wheel drive.
Four engines are on offer:
- Turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine developing 310 hp and 430 lb-ft.
- 5.3-liter V8 producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft
- 6.2-liter V8 generating 420 hp and 460 lb-ft
- 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo diesel engine good for 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft
The four-cylinder engine and the 5.3-liter V8 with rear-wheel drive are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The others come with a ten-speed automatic.
Standard features for the base 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro trim include 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, automatic high beams, chrome bumpers, remote keyless entry, a tilt-only steering wheel, heated exterior mirrors, cloth or vinyl upholstery, and vinyl floor coverings. The infotainment system features a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo system (double cab and crew cab), and two USB ports. Standard safety features include lane-keeping assistance and frontal collision mitigation.
At the top of the trim-level ladder, the Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate trim comes with 22-inch wheels, power-deploying side steps, a carbon-fiber composite bed, tailgate-mounted speakers, a sunroof, a head-up display, a 12-speaker Bose premium stereo setup, a virtual mirror camera, adaptive cruise control, and the Super Cruise semi-automated driving system. The latter is a driver assistance system compatible with more than 200,000 miles of North American roads. It even allows drivers to change lanes hands-free.
